about

A collection of selected Live performances between 2016-2021.

In June 2021 my good friend David Barrington filmed me playing an improvised electronic performance in an abandoned greenhouse next to my house in Norfolk. The music to this video is a loose reinterpretation of the track 'The Last Full Day Of Civilisation' which featured on my Adventures In The Anthropocene album.

We're happy to release this along with various other live performances made in various places from the last 5 years.

There are several hours of music here, each of which is myself playing my DAW with various electronic, keys and pads. A lot of these recordings haven't been heard since the day they were created, although a few have appeared on Naviar Records live concert compilations.

The oldest piece, Live at Blakeney Point from 2016 was an experiment recorded in a small bird lookout box in the middle of a bird sanctuary using a live feed of the birds and recorded directly into my computer using the battery power only- we had no mains electricity. The voice sample is from a BBC wildlife vinyl record that was made at the same location in 1970.

The others were all recorded in more standard concert settings in front of an audience with 2 exceptions; the live 2020 NPUC was an online gig during the first covid-19 pandemic.

The Live from a Cambridge hotel room which literally as the title suggests was recorded the day after my Cambridge gig - I woke early about 6am and opened the window and listened to the birdsong. I set up computer with the thought that maybe I would listen to lthe recording of last night's gig. Before I know it I set up my mic to capture the birds and was improvising along!

The 2019 concert in Thorpeness was perhaps one of the stranger experiences, I got asked by people I barely know to perform at a laid back garden party at someones small holiday cottage. It was an 'End of Summer' party and a dark, cloudy night in September with a distinct autumnal feel in the air but loaming in the distance just visible were the dark silhouettes of the chimneys of Sizewell nuclear power station.
